2004 World Rally Championship

2004 WRC - Japan - Round 11

The 2004 World Rally Championship season was the 32nd season of the FIA World Rally Championship. The season consisted of 16 rallies. The drivers' world championship was won by Sébastien Loeb in a Citroën Xsara WRC, ahead of Petter Solberg and Markko Märtin. The manufacturers' title was won by Citroën, ahead of Ford and Subaru.

Norway's Petter Solberg got his year back on track in wonderful style with a victory in the Rally of Japan, delivering the result which his paymasters at Subaru so craved, a victory in front of the home fans and media. It's been a startling turn-around for the world champion of course, who has had a miserable run of luck but who now has won the event which was probably his prime target at the start of the year. Petter was nearly in tears at the end of the event - he's an emotional so-and-so as we all know, but this was was really special to him.
